  About this Website

Corporations-Suck is a plain english website dedicated to opposing the increasing corporate control over the lives of people. It is a website rooted in the belief that large corporations do cost analysis studies on how to get what they want and deny the people what they need if the people's needs are ever at cross-purposes with what corporations want. Corporations act together in an organized way and have their fingers on the pulse of how much it costs to buy Congress and how much it costs to buy public opinion and are out actively buying up enough of both to serve their own selfish interests.

Corporations today are more in control than at any point in the past. The notion that there is any anti-trust policy in our government has become little more than a highly publicized sham. That is to say that the media will trot out a big Microsoft case every now and again to make people believe that the people in charge of regulating monopolies are actually doing something when in fact they aren't. Adam Smith, when he envisioned capitalism, envisioned a system where the consumer and the entrepreneur would both benefit. Today we have inherited a system where the consumer is manhandled and a handfull of the decendants of entrepreneurs benefit off of what their ancestors innovated. Nearly every industry you can think of is dominated by one to three huge corporations that can basically fix prices at will. They keep up an image of competition and get people to talk about 'WOW this one is cheaper than that one' for a few months or 'that one is cheaper than this one' for a time but it makes very little difference in the grand scheme of things.

Corporations own the products, the distribution channels, and the points of distribution. Capitalism was supposed to be this marvelous invention where anyone who could create a better product or produce the same product more cheaply could break in and provide that service for the consumers. No longer. Think about how much money it costs to put sugar, water and some bubbles in a can. One would think that you could do that for a lot less than a dollar, so in theory it should be possible for anyone to start a new cola company and compete. Have you started a cola company lately? The idea is rediculous. No one would sell it for fear of what Coke and Pepsi would do to them and in many cases Coke and Pepsi themselves would be the people you'd have to ask. They own the physical machines and/or have exclusive contracts in all of the points of distribution. The same is true for music. How much do you think it costs to encode some music onto a piece of plastic and slap some cover art in there? Yet the music industry still insists that there is no price fixing when they sell CDs for $20.00. Then even when they are caught price fixing there are no serious reprisals. Breaking the "law" is just the cost of doing business and whatever mild penalties there are for collusion has already been budgeted for and doesn't bother anyone to pay and is probably given right back in tax breaks the next year anyway.

We are lead to believe that we are powerless. Our powerlessness is driven into our heads every day. We are conditioned to accept that we will have to put up with more and more ads everywhere and more and more solicitations in our mail and more and more corporate control and we will just have to accept it. We are conditioned to believe that we are powerless to prevent pollution and waste and have no real say in working conditions. Most of all we are lead to believe that if we speak out against any of it we will be alone.

This is not the case.

  A Bit About Me

Me? I'm just some guy. I grew up on the "wrong" side of town, then moved to the place where you get to see how the "better" half lives. I'm half black and half white. I think that all of that gave me a rather unique view of the world while I was growing up. Looking white but having grown up black I got to hear what white people really say about black people when they're not around and vice versa. Having grown up in a neighborhood surrounded by ghettos and then moving to a neighborhood surrounded by mansions I got to hear what the rich really think of the poor and what the poor really think of the rich. I eventually came to the conclusion that they all suck: black, white, rich, poor and what have you. They're all too concerned with holding each other back to ever work together and grow to their potential.

But, it's not like dropping out of society and washing my hands of the whole affair stands any reasonable chance of making anything better. So I find myself with no other actionable option than to sit down and try to explain in plain English what the hell has gone wrong with the world and see if anyone is interested in reading it. That's what motivated me to get this website and start writing all this stuff.

As far as the rest of the trivial details about my life go: I'm a college grad (computers), I work for myself, I don't hate America BUT I must confess that there are some trees that I love more than some people, I support the Green Party more than any of the others but I try above all to support anything that makes sense over anything that does not make sense, I consider myself to be somewhat of a pacifist and I've never been in a fistfight even though I'm a big, strong lookin dude and could probably injure people rather effectively, and I'm one of those annoying vegetarians too (9 years) so I got to be big and strong without eating the dead animals and such, I belong to my local co-op and support the co-op movement and avoid the chain stores and all that to the best of my ability, I don't own a car and I bike or walk pretty much everywhere I need to go. In other words, yes I do take all this shit I say on here very seriously.

  Who Else is Here

This website is possible only because of the ever increasing efforts of its contributors. Contributors to this website range all over the progressive political spectrum (socialist, anarchist, capitalist; Green, Democrat), but the unifying factor is that all of the contributors feel very deeply that people should be put ahead of profits and are committed to changing the global power structure so that the world can remain a suitable place for human habitability in future generations.
